Hill Hails Cards Following ‘Great Win’

By Jacob Greenwood

Garry Hill has paid tribute to his side following a ‘great’ 2-1 victory at Chester.

The Cards came into the game without a win since beating Halifax Town 3-0 in early October but goals from Dan Holman and John Goddard sent Hill home happy after a tough few weeks. He told BBC Surrey:

“It was a great win. It has been very tough over the last few weeks. we have been low on confidence. We saw some signs of encouragement (in previous weeks) and all of a sudden, with such a young team, we lost our way again.”

The home side, who grabbed a late consolation goal courtesy of a Ross Hannah, were frustrated by a string of good saves by Cards ‘keeper Jake Cole and the woodwork. Hill admitted his side rode their luck at times to get a victory from a tough fixture.

Holman celebrates opening the scoring

“We’ve had a bit of luck today. They hit the crossbar and the post but we had other opportunities and chances.

“It’s  a shame we couldn’t keep a clean sheet but to come to Chester, it’s a tough place to come, and to get a win, it’s very encouraging”

Woking return to Kingfield on Tuesday evening to face Tranmere Rovers and despite the victory in Cheshire, Hill won’t be getting carried away.

“We mustn’t  get carried away (with this victory). We have got a very tough game against Tranmere on Tuesday.”
