Hill praises Cards after important away victory

By Jacob Greenwood

Garry Hill has paid tribute to his player’s following an impressive second half performance that saw The Cards extend their unbeaten start to the season with a win over Wrexham.

Striker Scott Rendell’s 25-yard curling effort put the visitors ahead against the run of play at the Racecourse Ground but the hosts pegged The Cards back with a goal from Louis Moult before the break.

A well struck shot from the edge of the six-yard box just after the hour mark from Woking’s Dean Morgan was enough to give the away side a narrow victory and elevate them to 4th in the table.

Woking manager Hill talked of his relief of going in level at half-time and was delighted with the response from his players. He told BBC Surrey:

“It was a relief to come in at one each. I didn’t think we had played to the standard which we have been showing recently. We had a little chat at half-time and sorted a few things out and in the second half I think it was a different Woking.

“It was a big result, but we came here confident. We have been playing very well this season and we are unbeaten, it was a good time to come here and play Wrexham, we have a lot of confidence at the moment.

“On the second half display we definitely deserved the three points.”

Rendell’s opener was his fifth goal in two games and Hill belives he could be a crucial player this season:

“He has now scored seven so far in our first six games. If we can keep him fit and he gets the service then he will get goals.”

Morgan, whose second half striker sealed the three points for Woking,  has made a good impression with the Cards’ manager since arriving at the club. Hill stated:

“I enjoy working with him. He is a rebel, but you have them in football, but he isn’t a bad lad at all. He wants to do it for me, Thommo, the rest of the lads and the club.”
