Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper and Woking fan Rob Green has told Everything Woking FC he can’t rule out playing for The Cards at some point in the future.

Green, who is a lifelong Woking supporter, is currently concentrating on getting QPR back to the Premier League following their relegation last season. Rangers are currently third in the league and the ex-England man admitted promotion is still the aim at Loftus Road:

“We are more than likely to be in the play-offs but we do have players coming back from injury for that. Hopefully, by the time they come round we will be back to full-strength. It is a bit of a lottery in the play-offs.

“On an individual level gaining promotion would be brilliant. It is something I have done at every club I have been at so far. I joined to help the club do well in the Premier League and it will be nice to get back to the basis we started from.”

The Chertsey-born shot-stopper recalls getting into supporting The Cards at a young and still tries to get to matches when he gets a spare weekend:

“I lived in Woking for the first 16 years of my life and I am from the area so it just made sense to go and support your local team.

“I haven’t been this season, I have two young kids so that has put it to bed for a couple of years. I preferred it, ironically, when we were in the Conference South as I went to as many away games as I did home ones because they were local.”

Despite not being able to make as many games, Green believes Woking are doing well to hold their own in the Conference but will find it difficult to go one step further to the football league:

“It is so hard in that league. You look at Luton, they are getting 7-8 thousand at home games. You look at that league and it is such a bad league to get out of as there is only one automatic spot.”

Everything WFC put it to Rob whether he could ‘do a Kevin Betsy’ and play out the later stages of his career at Kingfield and the 34-year-old refused to rule out the prospect:

“Well you can never say never but you reach an age where the lights go out and you are no good to anyone. I wouldn’t know about playing for them, I wouldn’t want to spoil it.”

“For a goalkeeper it has changed so much. There is a lot more movement with young ‘keepers, a lot more loan signings. You don’t really get a goalkeeper associated with a club in the lower leagues.”

“In-terms of myself, not just yet. Hopefully I will be playing in the higher leagues for a few more years.”
