Woking manager Garry Hill spoke of his delight after his side came from behind to beat an in-form Macclesfield Town side.

The Cards were looking to bounce back from a disappointing midweek result at Dartford after which Hill revealed a few ‘home truths’ were spoken.

Looking back on the roller-coaster week, Hill told the official website:

“A series of events on and off the field contributed to a really disappointing evening on Tuesday. I felt very down on Wednesday, very mixed. It was probably the most difficult time I have had at Woking.

“A few home truths were said

“I was looking for a reaction and a performance today of character and commitment and I think we got that.”

Woking fell behind early on as the Silkmen’s top scorer slid the ball past Beasant and maintained their lead until the half-time break.

The home side reacted well after the break and Jack Marriott hit back with a goal from 18 yards out which found its way past the out-stretched ‘keeper and into the far corner. The Cards then found themselves ahead when a wonder-strike from John Goddard found it’s way into the top corner of the goal.

However, Woking couldn’t hold their lead and the visitors responded 4 minutes later when George Pilkington punched on an error by Beasant to level the scores. Despite this Woking kept fighting and clinched their 12th victory of the season when Scott Rendell beat the offside trap and slammed the ball home with 12 left on the clock.

Hill admitted after the game be was impressed with his sides’ finishing:

” In the three years I have been at Woking, I would go as far as to say they were probably the best three goals I have seen from different players in the same game. They were of the highest quality.”
